Fabled Beasts
An illustrated chateau collection with stories woven into fabric
This original collection, designed for moments of tranquility and contemplation, is the beautiful result of a collaboration between artist Ota Bláha and Inéz Cusumano. Woven into the delicate Toile de Jouy illustrations is a tapestry of local legends, mythical creatures, and sacred symbols inspired by the forests surrounding Mcely. It carries a profound message about the quest for our true essence—a lifelong journey navigating the material and spiritual worlds. It invites you not only to playfully discover its hidden symbols but also to explore your own interpretation and enjoy quiet reflection.
Can you discover the hidden symbols woven into the fabric? For your inspiration, we reveal a few of their secrets below.
The St. George Forest In local lore, the St. George Forest is a sanctuary of transformation, guidance, and personal growth. It symbolizes a mystical journey toward the light, marking the threshold between the visible world and that which remains hidden. Yet, the true secrets of the forest can only be discovered by those who approach with a pure heart.
The Dragon with the Pearl The dragon embodies the formidable power of the material world, while the pearl symbolizes the human soul. Liberating the pearl from the dragon’s grasp signifies the ultimate quest for true enlightenment and inner freedom. In local legends, the dragon also represents the darkness fought by St. George, the patron protector of pilgrims journeying through the Mcely woods.
The Bear is a nod to honey - a timeless symbol of abundance, gentleness, and the sweetness of life. Since ancient times, however, it has also been revered as the guardian of strength, courage, and inner wisdom.
The Camel evokes the ancient Silk Road, along which precious treasures and spiritual wisdom once traveled from the East to Europe. It symbolizes endurance, humility, patience, and the grace to persevere even through the most inhospitable conditions.
The Silkworm is a symbol of transformation, patience, and rebirth. Its life cycle reminds us that true growth often unfolds in silence, hidden away and unfolding slowly.
Swans serve as an emblem of purity and are intertwined with the legend of the fairies of the St. George Forest. Lore tells that these ethereal beings take on human form by night, yet by day, they hide upon the pristine surface of the forest ponds in the guise of white swans, remaining safely veiled from human eyes.
The mushrooms offer a whimsical nod to a charming local tale about how the world’s very first mushrooms came to be, while celebrating the renowned mushroom-hunting paradise that surrounds Mcely.
Perhaps the forest is not calling us to explore the wilderness, but to journey into our innermost selves.
